CMS Updates 2014 Clinical Quality Measures for Eligible Professionals
Starting in 2014, the CQMs will be used for multiple reporting programs including the Physician Quality Reporting System, with the measures aligned for meaningful use, as well. “Because measure specifications may need to be updated more frequently than our expected rulemaking cycle will allow for, this table provides updates to the specifications,” CMS notes in the 28-page document. “Subsequent updates will be provided in a new version of this table at least six months prior to the beginning of the calendar year for which the measures will be required, and CMS will maintain and publish an archive of each update.”
The CQMs are grouped to support six priorities: patient and family engagement, patient safety, care coordination, population/public health, efficient use of resources, and clinical processes and effectiveness. CMS strongly encourages use of the updated CQMs, but will accept all versions of CQMs for meaningful use, beginning with the measures finalized in the interim final rule for meaningful use published on December 4, 2012.
